Extended Schools

What is an “Extended School” ?

The Government has a long-term vision of schools at the heart the community, providing access to childcare from 8am to 6pm all year round (not necessarily on the school site) and offering a range of locally determined activities and services. There's no single model for extended school - what is on offer is shaped by the needs and demands of pupils, parents and wider community.

You can read more about the overall vision here:

In Cambridgeshire, these extended services are being developed within groups or “clusters” of schools.

Extended Schools in the Bottisham, Burwell and Soham Cluster

The 18 schools in our cluster have pooled their resources and are working together to develop a range of extended services to best meet the needs of children, their families and the wider community. The cluster employs an Extended Schools Coordinator, Jill Doak, who works with the schools to develop extended services both in individual schools, and cluster wide.  The cluster also employs Julia Hammond who has specific responsibility for developing the “varied menu” of extra curricular activities. Both Jill and Julia have a focus on working with partner organisations, including Children’s Centres, the Locality Team and other agencies. Jill and Julia report to an Extended Schools Steering Group which includes Head teachers and Governors from schools within the cluster.
